BIOGRAPHY

Venice, Marrakech, Copenhagen and Edinburgh, to name but a few. Maria has spent a good deal of time performing and travelling the continent.

Originally from London, UK, Maria began studying music, theatre & acting as a child, she then branched into singing during her teens and began training classically.

Under the tutelage of Frances Brooke LGSM (Abbey Academy of Singing & Acting) Maria began her classical training, to this day she continues under Michelle Nova MISM (La Nova Studios).

Notable venues of performance include the Canterbury Cathedral, Venice Rovereto Rossimini Piazza as well as The Edinburgh Festival.

Maria's performance experience extends to private & corporate functions, celebrations and show productions.

Background and why do what I do?

Well why would I not?

Maria's childhood was spent running around grassy meadows outside, then indoors in a household where she was surrounded by music of all genres Reggae, Rock, Classical, Blues etc. When she wasn't listening to music, she was watching musicals, classics such as West Side Story, Guys and Dolls, My Fair Lady and many many more.

As if this wasn't enough, Maria was then enrolled at Patricia Burrows School of Music and Dance aged 3 and the rest is herstory...

Music & The Arts became an irreplaceable part of her life!

So now to focus on the music!

Classical music comprises the bulk of Maria's repertoire, from Handel to Mozart, to Puccini. Baroque to Operatic arias. Musicals, particularly West-End / Broadway classics, also feature heavily in her repertoire.

Close to Maria's heart is the genre of Blues and Jazz, both the lyrical style and musicality captures an era of diversity and change. Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holliday and Nina Simone to name but a few of the great ladies of jazz.

he rise of Soul defined an affinity with the music of Motown, due to growing up hearing songs by Aretha Franklin, Diana Ross and Gladys Knight & The Pips. Soul defined an era of artistic freedom for countless musicians, including Chaka Khan, Whitney Houston and Anita Baker, also inspiring Maria as a child.

Contemporary and popular music both feature on Maria's song collection. Vocals of soulstresses Alicia Keys, Beyonce and Mariah Carey have all left lasting impressions.
